When I came out, the biggest worry in the UK trans community was the lengthy, years long, waiting lists for an extensive diagnosis process just to be able to have a conversation about transitioning with a medical professional. Today, that issue feels so small when our government is now systematically removing our rights, one by one, and doing everything they can to make public life as difficult as possible for so many of us.
When asked why they're doing this, all Labour can respond with is that they still believe we should be treated with "Dignity & Respect" - that repeated quote is the namesake of this project. As I do with almost all my music, I want to tell a story - a story of how scary it is right now, a story of emotions shared across the community, a story of how the media and our country has failed us.
If you're unware of what is happening, I urge you to read the following articles:
Please also see this page by WhatTheTrans for ways you can help.
I want to take my time with this and get it right - these emotions are straight from my heart and I don't want to rush it, but I also don't want to keep music laying around on my hardrive waiting for a complete album when I could get my feelings out into the world sooner. So for this project, when a piece is ready I'll release it as a new part, no waiting for a full album, I'll just release it. There is no set amount of parts to this, I'll finish when I feel finished.
This means there will only be youtube releases until I have a finished album.
"In history’s sad song, there is a refrain. Believe differently, love differently, be of different sex or skin, and be punished. We sing this song to one another. The oppressed become oppressors. [...] Oh, to play by the rules and still they come for you." - Magneto, X-Men 97
